State Rep. Ben Leman (R-Brenham) has joined forces with more than two dozen legislators in an effort to end the local high-speed rail project.
Leman took to Facebook on April 14 and responded to news that lawmakers urged the U.S. Department of Transportation end the transition during the coronavirus. Leman wrote that taxpayers don’t want to see their money being used for the high-speed train that would go back and forth from Houston to Dallas, according to The Eagle.
“Last week, 27 state lawmakers and two Congressmen joined me in signing a letter calling for the suspension of all federal activities related to the High-Speed Rail project," Leman posted. "As we continue to navigate the coronavirus response, taxpayers want to see their tax dollars being put to work for America's safety and well-being. We look forward to providing you with the transportation secretary's response upon receipt.”
Leman and the 26 other lawmakers penned a letter to Texas Central Partners and said that there simply isn't enough money for the high-speed rail project.
