Two facilities at the George H.W. Bush Combat Development Complex will receive portions of a $60.3 million grant with approval from the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents.

A hypersonic and directed energy testing range – Ballistic, Aero-Optics and Materials (BAM) – will receive $22.5 million. The 1-kilometer long, 2-meter diameter enclosed testing range will be the largest of its kind in the United States, the Texas A&M Real Estate Center reported on its website.

After a start in February, construction should conclude in October 2022.

The Innovation Proving Ground, a next-generation vehicle test track, will receive $37.8 million in funding from the Board of Regents. The year-long construction schedule starts in May.

The complex is part of the Austin-based U.S. Army Futures Command and the Texas A&M System at the RELLIS Campus. The facility is at the junction of state Highways 21 and 47.
