The Texas Water Development Board has approved just over $11 million in funding to help Grimes County and the City of Iola build a new wastewater system.

This consists of $4 million in a no-interest loan and over $7 million in forgivable loans to the county. The funds will go toward the planning and construction of the system. In addition to the loan forgiveness for the second portion of the funding, the city is expected to save over $250,000 a year due to the new wastewater system.

This funding comes at just the right time, with the county and the city in dire need of updates and improvements to its outdated wastewater system. The project will bring wastewater to both residential and commercial residents and buildings.

The Texas Water Development Board is in charge of identifying areas of need in the state when it comes to water treatment facilities related to wastewater, flooding and other water needs.
